For When You Feel Like Something’s Missing

I Feel Like Something’s Missing…

You’ve made it through another day.  The babies are tucked in, the house is clean (ish…), and your to do list is mostly crossed off.  You slip into your PJs, crawl into your bed, and try to will your body and mind to rest, but that nagging feeling is there again.  You can’t help but feel like something’s missing.

Something feels off, there is a void in your days.  Something your soul is longing to do, but you just can’t figure out what it is.  Or maybe you know what it is, but your head keeps telling you that that’s not for you.

You’re not brave enough, smart enough, charismatic enough, confident enough, spiritual enough, or good enough for that to be in your future.

Oh sweet sister…  I sooooo get that.

Maybe you feel called to serve other wives, but your marriage isn’t perfect so how could you ever lead others?

Or you have a heart to help other moms, but you just yelled at your child for whistling so who are you to try and offer parenting advice?

Maybe you feel called to help women realize their passion and potential to reach that scary calling that God’s placed in their hearts.  But you have no idea how you could encourage someone along in their calling when your calling isn’t crystal clear either.

The Lie We Need to Expose

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that God loves light and Satan loves darkness.  God loves when we bring our cares, concerns, and desires out into the light and share them openly with Him as an excited child does with their own father or mother.

But Satan, our true Enemy, loves it when we keep them hidden.  Keeping your hopes and dreams locked away in the closet of aspirations in your mind makes the Devil do a happy dance.  He takes great delight that you would keep them tucked away.   And he’ll do everything in his power to keep them locked away, stifled, and hidden.SUCF2|People|Food and Drink|Teens$Drink|0N0|000000000000000000000000000000000000000000||||$$0$0$0||000000000000000000000000000000000000000100|

He’ll cast doubts, strike you with fear, cut you down, and steal any ray of hopeful possibility that tries to shed light on that little closet.  He wants nothing more than to keep you living below God’s best for you.  To keep you feeling like something’s missing.  Because God’s best for you, is that you would be the shining light in this dark world that He created you to be.

Before time began.  Before the earth existed…  Your name was known by our Creator and He had a glorious plan for you to shine your light to those who need it.

So let’s look at God’s truth about you, shall we?

You are…

  • Loved (Romans 1:7)
  • God’s Masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10)
  • Chosen (1 Thessalonians 1:4)
  • Gifted (1 Peter 4:10)
  • Light (Ephesians 5:8)
  • Free (Galatians 5:1)

Why Do I Feel This Way?

We feel this way because we are denying an essential part of who we have been created to be!  We are casting our God calling to the side.  Stifling it with long to do lists that never allow time to pursue a calling. Hiding it away because we feel guilty for aspiring for more than what we have.

But if God places it there, we don’t need to hide it!  In fact, we are commanded NOT to hide it!

Jesus explains this best:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5: 14-16  (Emphasis added)

You are here to be salt and light.

To point others to Jesus.

To be obedient to God, shine your light, and guide others to the Father.

So when you feel like something’s missing, and you can’t quite place your finger on it, let me help you name it.  It’s your God calling.  Your purpose.  The thing that God created you for long ago is awakening in your heart.

Let it out.

Let your light shine.

Be the you you were created to be.

Kiersten, thank you for this from-your-heart post! We wear so many hats sometimes we get overwhelmed, don’t we? I appreciate the encouragement to remember that He has given each of us a special calling and special gifts to bless His people and others around us. Thank you for the reminder!
